Stormy day panarama

Today has been freezing cold, with heavy rain, strong winds, intervals of clear sky and sunshine...very confusing. There is snow inland and many passes have been closed.
This is the view looking from the east side of the village ( we live nearby). The pool to the right is known as Gibbons pool, named after a family who have lived here for many years, and it is a favourite pool for swimming and snorkeling. The local dogs love swimming there too.
Our village of Schoenmakerskop ( known as Schoenies...and my blip name!) - is a charming place where the oldest residents have fond memories of life before electricity and where they had a carefree childhood. The literal translation is shoemakers head, and no one really knows the origin of the name - many tales abound.
It was a popular place for holidays in the old days where folk pitched their tents, collected water from the fresh water springs and cooked over fires. Most of the homes are the original ones, but more and more they are being replaced by modern ones.
Our oldest resident is 98 years old and when we first arrived here we used to fetch our morning newspapers from a black bin under the big tree in her garden.
There are so many stories about our village, and from time to time I will relate them - I have posted many blips from around here, but time to make them more interesting!!
