Mallard

This is absolutely huge as are most of the engines at the National Railway Museum in York. The power must have been incredible. Apparently steam engines could go backwards as efficiently as forwards but the driver and the fireman became affected by the elements if travelling backwards. The design of the cab offered no protection.
