West Derby Library, Liverpool
This library was opened in 2012 to replace the nearby Larkhill library which was closed. It is situated within the newly built West Derby Academy School. Motto : "We deliver success". Maybe, but the library is now threatened with closure, 9/11.
In 2012/2013 Liverpool's Library Service "delivered £2.2m worth of efficiencies", with the closure of 3 libraries and the loss of 76 FTE posts. This year it needs to save a further £2.5m and the proposal is to close 11 libraries- unless other people will take them over. Interestingly, and rather ironically, one library is safe because of the council's "significant legally binding Private Finance Initiative scheme".
