Victory Memorial Drive
My mother-in-law was telling me that she liked to visit Victory Memorial Park in Minneapolis when she was young, in the 1940's. She said she used to hitch hike to the park! She even remembered the streets that it was on. I did a little online search and I found what is now called Victory Memorial Drive.
The drive is a lovely parkway lined with trees. 568 trees were planted in 1921 in memory of the 568 people from Hennepin County who died in WWI. Most of the trees have had to be replaced but they are still lined up along the drive. The inscription on the base of the flag pole reads, "In honor of 568 residents of Hennepin County who gave their lives in defense of liberty" The Great War 1914 - 1918. Bev remembers sitting in a circular park with a flag pole. The circular area is now beautiful granite put in in 2011. This is the fourth flagpole since it was originally built in 1921.
I would love to bring Bev here some day to see how it looks today. Might be a fun ride down memory lane for her.
