Robin Barclay - one a day

By RobinBarclay

Day out at Sumburgh Lighthouse

We went to Sumburgh Lighthouse, at the southern tip of the Shetland mainland. It has recently been tastefully upgraded to a visitor/interpretive centre (my first visit to that) and a brief visit turned into an all afternoon visit. It is a great place - they have done good work - and the views are stunning. It is probably the best place in Shetland to see puffins, and there were plenty - although it is getting late in the summer for seabird nestlings - many have fledged. The guillemots were a bit sparse. It was such a nice warm day that we stopped off at Levenwick beach on the way back to Hoswick. As usual the kids got wet shoes, socks and shorts - the car is full of sand.
