Not a club I'd want to be in!

Cordyceps militaris - The Scarlet Caterpillar Club, so called because its spores grow inside a caterpillar, or other insect and replace its innards with its mycelium before producing this startling fruiting body to start the cycle over again. View large to see the detail.
I went for a short foray this afternoon to check if there was anything doing fungi-wise at a site near home, where I am co-leading a foray towards the end of October. There was quite a lot doing, as it happened so even in a short time I counted a good number and assortment of fungi, a few more of which can be seen on my Flickr photostream
