A few old pre-decimals coins for those with good memories. A few old pennies. A couple of half pennies or hapennies. A sixpence or tanner. And a farthing! There really was a time you could have bought quite a lot for that. Bus fare started at one penny when I went to school. You could also skip the bus, walk a bit further and buy 16 black jack liquorice or fruit salad chews for the same price.
