An Elder
This is T-990 hauled up (and cordoned off ) at Sandy Beach this morning.
The "T" in his name means he has been transferred from the northern Hawaiian Islands to Oahu, when officials were concerned about the male/female ratio. He is one of two elders in this seal population, about 31 years old. Usual upper age for seals is about 30 years. You can see some wrinkles showing, he no longer has the sleek, plump body of his youth.
It happens to all of us!
