Seeing the light
I still had the camera set up for macro from last night, and I had a sudden inspiration(*) - I'd try to get a shot of the insides of a lightbulb.
The first 8 or 9 I looked at, though, weren't "real" - they were funny little knobbly wire-and-glass things glowing faintly inside something the general shape of a real bulb - not what I was after. Far be it from me to rant about EU conspiracies or anything like that, but I was amazed to discover it was almost impossible to find a traditional lightbulb in our house.
I finally found this in a lamp on the mantelpiece, and I'm glad I was able to record it before it's lost to the unstoppable tide of modernisation. This to me is what a light bulb should be. Look at the wires glowing incandescently - we photographers might talk about "colour temperature", but this is the real thing!
It was only afterwards I noticed the name of the place we bought it from can just be made out! Similar lightbulbs are abvailable from other supermarkets (or at least....they used to be... :( )
* I showed considerable restraint in not making a "lightbulb moment" joke at this point
