The Captain...Again
Way back in March (SEE BLIP HERE), we went up to St. Pete in Florida to see our Detroit Tigers play the N.Y. Yankees. To see the Captain...Derek Jeter.
Now...he is on a "goodwill" tour around the league. He is retiring at the end of the season. Most teams are honoring him with special nights, complete with gifts.
My sister Terrie knew this. She got us tickets, 22 rows up...right behind home plate. She also paid for parking, bought us hot dogs, AND...brought snacks.
Problems? 1. Rain delayed the game for 70 minutes. 8:15 start time instead of 7:05. 2. We picked the wrong night. They are honoring him on Wednesday instead of Tuesday. 3. With the Yankees playing late last night, the team chose not to play him in the field, although he was the DH (designated hitter.)
But...all in all, a special player, and a special night. Thanks Sis.
Derek looks a little pensive here. Almost like he is soaking it in...like he knows the end of a long career is near.
