Pigeon loft
with a difference since the birds were not racing pigeons, they had no rings on their legs and they were free to fly into the air and away. J had stopped the car in a suburb of Dorchester to deliver a letter and the birds were in the backyard of the next house. Many years ago racing pigeons used to land tired out on the farm from flying across the channel. We used to just give them some grain and some water and made sure they were safe before they flew off again.
This afternoon I had driven to the Piddle Valley to visit a friend who was house sitting and J wanted to get out and go shopping so we drove down to Dorchester in the rain. I managed at long last to buy some teaspoons - ours are now all jumbly and discoloured so N was very pleased on my return!
