Poor Cow

Day 3 at L'Arche was quite exciting. The farm next to the house had a herd of cows. In the morning, the farmers came and rounded them all up, then seperated the calves from all the rest. The calves were taken away in a trailer and the herd was allowed to return to the field.

I will never forget the plaintive lowing of the mothers calling out to their children.
We all knew what had happened to them.
Eventually the cows realised that they wouldn't come back.

Cows actually cry. They really do.
