'Last Minute Defects Inspection'
I was called up just as I was leaving for work this morning to do a defects inspection for one of our projects out at La Trobe University so headed straight there from home.
This is a new Mac Lab fit out up on Level 3 of an existing building. We had never worked with these particular builders before, and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised with the high quality of their work and the fact that they finished the project a week and a half ahead of schedule with only a few very minor variations to the contract sum. Normally when we are called out to undertake our defects inspections there are still builders clambering around over each other trying to finish off bits and pieces and still to be properly cleaned. Today was the exception. I could only find a couple of very minor items for the builder to finish before we sign a certificate of practical completion.
I wrote an email to the director of the building company to thank him for the work that they had done and hoped that we would be able to work together on more projects together in the future. Days like this are a real pleasure to spend at work, with everybody happy including, Architects, builders, project manager, building surveyor and most importantly the client.
This shot show the collaborative seating booths at the back of the space. Elsewhere in the room there are a number of round & hexagon shaped tables which seat with 4 or 6 students in groups and a large projection screen which you can see on the left hand side in this shot for group learning.
