Blooming Heather
A few weeks ago, one of my friends suggested walking part of the John Muir Way from Helensburgh to Balloch. So on Saturday four of us took our respective trains to Helensburgh, meeting up at Glasgow Queen Street along the way. After a stop for coffee and cake and to watch the PS Waverley dock and then sail from Helensburgh, we set out to follow the way-marked route to Balloch.
The walk started easily enough, albeit uphill out of Helensburgh, and then just continued uphill through Bannachra Muir and Gowk Hill, before a steep descent which led onto the Stoneymollan Road into Balloch. The views over Loch Lomond were wonderful (and no-one photographed me shin-deep in mud during the descent through the woods, which was a bonus!) and it was difficult to choose which photograph to post on my blip. But I liked this one, especially as seeing the summit of Ben Lomond cloud-free is an added extra.
