"On top of the Spire"
As I promised on a recent blip today was the day a group of us were to climb the scaffolding to the top of our church spire. What an amazing experience climbing all these ladders , negotiating all the supporting struts and squeezing through narrow trapdoors onto the next level.
We went through all the safety instructions and donned our hard hats - very necessary considering the number of times I clunked mine against wooden batons and metal struts.
Here we are at the top -level 23 and 164 feet up as this platform is above the top of the spire! From left to right Tommy the man in charge who led us up and warned us of all the hazards, Jan our South African minister who learned a few things about health and safety unheard of in his home country, Ian our property convener and himself a retired minister who was more interested in the work going on with the building than the views and yours truly who I think has at long last conquered his fear of heights!
The views of the surrounding countryside and a new perspective of our town were captured on another 130 photos!
With 2 ministers in the group our prayers for a lovely sunny day were certainly answered and for once Scotland was getting the best of the UK weather!
