Chaenomeles (Japanese quince)

These are the fruit from the ornamental quince. I think you can eat them (cooked) but they look quite different from the normal edible quince. I did try them in mince meat one year but it was not very pleasant. I originally planted the shrub because I love the dark red flower in early Spring - the flower appears before the leaves.
