Winter in Copa
Winkled HH out of the house for a walk along the beach for the second day running – then he went off to buy medicines and stuff and I headed for the supermarkets. Guests arriving and cupboards bare.
Spent quite a domesticated Saturday – unusual for us to be in Rio, instead of up in the hills, and being domesticated instead of working, and I quite enjoyed it. Then off the the airport to meet my co-godmother (she’s Chiara’s godmother and I’m godmother to her daughter Hannah). The two girls were christened together, in matching robes, handed down from previous generations of Hannah’s family.
BA arrived 40 minutes early, most unfair of it, so Rose was already through customs when I got there (in rather good time, I thought). Back in Rio, where she met her husband, for the first time in 33 years. He flies in tomorrow, when we’ll also see her younger son, who has been working in Rocinha, probably Rio’s oldest, and certainly it’s most famous favela (unless Cidade de Deus – City of God – is now more famous, because of the film). So good to see them all here after all these years.
