Blacksmith

We haven't seen the sun in 3 days! Everyday has been overcast & today it's been raining off & on so we decided to go take a ride on the Lumberjack Steam Train, & it was a lot of fun! The train is a renovated 1916 Vulcan Steam Engine that's been running on the same track for 90 years! Originally used to haul log cars, (cars full of logs that were cut by the lumberjacks & were then transported to the mill), today the engine pulls the "lumberjack steam train" to the historic logging camp--camp 5--which is on the National Register of Historic Places. We went through the lumberjack museum that's filled with old sleighs, tools, a recreated bunk room and cook shanty, as well as a display of the different types of trees that were cut & what they were used for. There was a wonderful movie on the history of logging in Wisconsin, as well as a huge room full of animal pelts, fossils, rocks, etc. that were all found in this area! They have a blacksmith who works in his shop at Camp 5 all summer, & who was so interesting to talk to! He grew up just west of Milwaukee, following both his grandfather & father into the blacksmith business! Here he is getting ready to make a candleholder. (I've put a picture of the train into my blipfolio!) :)
