France Day 11 : L'ile d'Aix

The two highlights of today were:

~ meeting up with a distant South African cousin who is married to a Frenchman and now living in La Rochelle. We had first met in 1987 when she visited Scotland. I was never terribly sure of the family connection, but fortunately Lulabel asked her today - apparently our great-grandmothers were sisters. So there!

~ taking a boat-trip to the island of Aix, which was a military prison until 1962, but has quite an interesting history before that. Cars are prohibited on the island, but bicycles are now a damned nuisance! We set the timer to get this shot.

Actually, there was another highlight to the day:

~ dinner in an organic restaurant called 'Le Soleil Brille Pour Tout le Monde', where the now-vegan Lulabel was served a fantastic salad and I enjoyed the plat du jour which was a delicieux poisson au gratin.
