I spent a year in Germany in the seventies to learn German. It was my first time away from home too.
I learnt a little bit of the language, I learnt a lot about life.

The only souvenir that I still have from that time is this wall plaque and I will loosely translate

"Always when you think you can't go on, a little light shines from somewhere to help you"
