The New Club

After a pleasant day dodging around the book festival and going to a very powerful play (The Trial of Jane Fonda) I met up with a former colleague who was Principal of the University of the Highlands and Islands and had dinner at his club. It was a very impressive evening - the building is very modernistic and concrete from the outside, but quite, quite different inside. We had a lovely meal and a very enjoyable evening catching-up, with the bonus of absolutely stunning views of Edinburgh from the unique balcony on Princes Street. This room played a seminal part in the history of the UHI - it was here that the three "sponsoring" Scottish universities agreed to give formal, practical backing to the UHI bid for full university status.
