Up and Under in #Huddersfield
I blipped this on leaving work after a full day the office. A glass of bottle of wine was the order of the day on arriving home.
This blue plaque is on the wall of the George Hotel in Huddersfield (which is currently closed and undergoing major refurbishment).
It was here in August 1895 that 21 Lancashire and Yorkshire clubs held a meeting and by a majority of 20 to 1 voted to secede from the Rugby Football Union to set up their own Northern Rugby Football Union. Stockport was also accepted into the league via telephone to the hotel.
In 1922 the NRFU became the Rugby Football League.
Tomorrow (Saturday) sees an all Yorkshire Challenge Cup Final. A number of my friends are making the trip down to Wembley as Castleford Tigers take on Leeds Rhinos.
