Fringe Celebrity

Our final Fringe day took us first to St Cuthbert's for an organ duet recital - interesting watching the video loop of the two organists, Simon Bertram and Jeremy Cull in action on the four-manual instrument. Great Music and thoroughly enjoyable.

Then we hoofed up to the Scottish Museum to hear the 2pm recital, on the Chinese Harp, which has silk strings and is played horizontally. The acoustics of the stone-lined atrium gave this a haunting sound.

Arriving early for the evening entertainment we wandered through West Princes Street gardens and bumped into Arthur Smith, who was not at all a Grumpy Old Man but perfectly charming and posed for a blip with Mr Flum.

So on to the final show, in Castle Terrace, with Richard Michael and Family playing jazz. We have heard Richard playing piano before but here we were also treated to violinist and saxophonist Hilary Michael, Joanna Duncan on violin and vibraphone and Paul Michael on double bass. The repertoire varied but Old Hundredth will never be the same again. We were left with feet tapping and wide smiles, to brave the pouring rain and bus home.
