The reunion
Today we decided to have a bit of a rest day.
Both suffering from heat stroke last night, and the pain from being on crutches was a bit much, plus jet lag had finally hit after two days. I had a solid 12 hour sleep, only to be woken up for food and water, whilst Nathan was up at 2am watching movies.
We spent a good half an hour trying to find a tv channel that spoke English, we even got excited when Peppa pig came on because we thought it would have been in English, but no, Peppa pig was speaking French today! We gave up on the tv and I set to finishing some paintings whilst Nathan watched tv shows off our hard drive.
The doctors have prescribed me with panadene forte for my pain, I don’t ever recall taking the stuff before my injury so my body is not used to it at all. Also, it is known for backing you up if taken for long periods of time. So when Nathan went to the shops for groceries last night he also came back with prune juice, which helps the system. Today however, is not such a good time for anyone around me.
Nathan: ‘It’s like a nuclear ass bomb’
I feel that is all the information needed to be shared on this subject.
We spent the early afternoon sitting outside our hotel in the lovely sun waiting to hear from Karma & Dafydd! Two of my closest friends who were coming over for mine & Nathan’s Parisian wedding. I was born two days before Karma & our parents had known each other for a long time, so we grew up joined to the hip. Dafydd & I went to preschool together & the same schools growing up, until year 10 where I left and moved to Australia.
After getting some deliciously greasy, fatty burgers and chicken wings we heard back from Karma & Dafydd, they had arrived at their hotel! 22 minute walk from us, we inhaled our food and head out to meet them. Nathan and I were a bit late to the cafe we arranged to meet at, or so we thought. We sat there wondering where they were, wether they had fallen into a pub and gotten drunk somewhere along the way or if they had just gotten lost! We arranged to meet halfway which was a 7 minute walk from their hotel on google maps, 45 minutes in real life, because they had done both gotten lost and fallen into pubs getting drunk.
We were sitting on the corner of a round a bout on Paris watching the crazy French drivers pass by. One car almost hit a motorcyclist, so the guy on the bike did a large loop, slammed his bike into the side of the car then drove off! So random. French are very aggressive drivers.
Over an hour later, just as we were considering leaving to go back to the hotel for wifi to contact them, they came round the corner. It was an over whelming reunion, we sat in the sun laughing and talking for a few hours over some expensive French beers. Karma & I reminisced on the days of our childhoods and caught up on the last few years, whilst the boys stuck pretzels in their beards.
We’d decided that because it was the night before our wedding we’d get ready separately, so I stayed at Karma’s hotel & Dafydd stayed with Nathan. So we made our way back to our hotel to get my wedding dress etc. Whilst getting ready Karma & Dafydd snuck off to have a sneaky pint across the road. It was between the hours of 3pm & 9pm so lucky them it was happy hour! Happy afternoon in Paris.
We sat in the sun & laughed some more, sung old songs & French peanuts.
The walk to the hotel was 22 minutes but we didn’t make it close to that time, heres what happened instead.
After leaving the first pub, somewhere within the next 50 meters Karma & Dafydd disappeared. They reappeared with a 6 pack of beer saying everyone had to do a shotgun, something I haven’t done before. Basically, put a hole in the bottom of the can to drink from, open the top and skull. Definitely was not doing that whilst on crutches, drink-crutching could potentially be dangerous!
We made it a further 50 meters before stopping off at a pub for a quick wee, oh and apparently more drinks!
After a few there, and a few funny looks from an old grumpy guy behind us, we moved on. We only made it a further 10 meters to Macdonalds. I waited outside and they came out with two large bags full of food. After that we decided to head a bit closer to the hotel, but crossing the road, I tried to keep up with the others who had ran across and somehow lost balance causing my hip to twist. The pain was horrible. We had to catch a taxi from there back to the hotel, which was also a painful experience. No one could communicate to him the name of the hotel, so half way down the street when we showed him the address again, we had to do a U turn. We eventually made it back.
We got up to the hotel and immediately Karma pulls out the Midori, which was something we drank when we were younger. (Not younger than 18, honestly) It brought back many fun memories we had together, still, shots was not something to do before bed. haha
The boys headed off whilst Karma & I got into bed, we played Hanson music and cried thinking about all the fun we had together as kids.
We found out in the morning that the boys had gone off on a tour of Paris at 11 o’clock at night, the 20 minute walk back to the hotel turned into a 5 hour long pub crawl.
Nathan doesn’t remember much except drinking too much, cigars, shots, lots of walking and a bald headed crazy French gansta.
