This is a statue representing the Greek myth of the abduction of Ganymede.

It's a Roman sculpture in marble, and was created around about 300-400AD.

It hangs in the Palazzo Grimani, in Venice in true splendour.

I think that the Scots - who were independent at the time - were still trying to figure out how fire worked. And I say that as a Scot.

Hmmm. How come one civilisation is busy creating some of the most astonishing architecture and statues and art of the entire world, while another one is still living in mud huts and chucking spears around?

Perhaps it had something to do with the weather....
