Pompeys Pillar

Today we went to Pompeys Pillar which was named after Sacagaweas son by William Clark who carved his name in the rock 25th July 1806. It is the only physical evidence left of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. When Clark climbed to the top all he could see were herds of buffalo which numbered up to 60 million at that time, this reduced to a thousand at one point after the buffalo hunters slaughter. The site was sacred to the indians and there is very much a peaceful feeling at this beautiful place.
