More of the same
Apologies for posting identical photo to yesterdays - the alternative was a blackthorn bush alongside the horse field, full of sloes. Potentially best ever harvest possible but now the wait for the first frost and seeing if I can beat the birds. Given our dreadfully cold weather, frost may not be far awy. In middle Germany they are now in single figure night time temperatures! We are struggling at around 10°C.
OAP walk this morning. Arbian Asyr (29) who we give a lot of freedom to roam at will, nudged me as I was checking the chickens and then followed me to the house when I got the dog collars. So got his halter and off we set, Luna leading the pensioners.
Hadn't been through the forest for months and was surprised to see there are in fact virtually no mushrooms - I thought the weather would have forced them out. Asyr was on excellent form and clearly loved the outing. His neck is a lot better but the bumps still there but not hurting. The vet had injected him yet again 10 days ago, the blood test revealed no problems and apart from a very slightly increased muscle value, showed excellent results, especially pleasing in terms of minerals etc which one never quite knows if hay/grass is providing what they need.
Nearly at the end and crossing between fields, met an acquaintance, Xaviar, a dog lover, one time police dog trainer and for last 4 years, without an own dog. Shame as he goes for a longish brisk walk every day. As we were chatting, Luna behind my back rolled on a big heap of dung!
When we got home. sent Angie a message that she needed to come home early and ride out to a deep stream. I was not going to touch Luna, not even with gloves! She was banned outside all afternoon.
So in the evening Angie did ride out but at 13°C, even she didn't want to let Luna swim. Perhaps the fresh air helped. After the ride she did smell less pungent.
Rosie went fairly well today. Last week Angie had tried her out and she was very lame. Her hooves were in a terrible condition when the farrier came two weeks ago and she is hyper sensitive when freshly shod but wish we could get to the bottom of the cause of this never ending saga.
Sultan was not amused at being left out, so Angie then gave him a work out on the sand school on the lunge. He seemed to spend most of the time in the air, trying to get rid of his excess energy.
Finally, it now being dark, we went indoors, all dogs and horses having had a run out today....
I am opening up comments again but beg anyone thinking of writing to forgive me if I don't always reply. I always read them and it's always a delight but PLEASE don't feel obliged to write anything. I can't thank you all enough for bearing with me! You Blipers are quite wonderful people.
