Graves with a view

Managed out to a fringe production tonight of Puccini's comic opera Gianni Schicchi. A tale of greed and inheritance, trickery and true love. Amid the drama and histrionics of a Florentine family afraid of losing out on their wealth, the aria of O mio Babbino caro soared.

The production was by operabohemia which provides opportunities for Scottish opera singers to perform in Scotland. Or so we were advised by a school friend we sat down beside by chance in the audience - Brian Bannatyne Scott. So very Edinburgh: so very Festival/ Fringe.

Brian is due to perform one of the roles in a few months for Opera North so was keen to see the production.

We had a family interest in that the director - Tom Cooper who works at the Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatrical Arts is related to my wife.
And we met other friends who know the Musical Director. So very Edinburgh: so very Festival/ Fringe.

It was a great performance and a tonic after another full-on day. And the surtitles helped!

On exiting St Cuthbert's Church I saw this different view of the castle with the headstones in front. Blip sorted.
