Shrewley tunnel
Shrewley tunnel is a canal tunnel which opened in 1799, it became part of the grand union in 1929. Plans showed three tunnels along the route but the last two became deep cuttings, this was not an option with shrewley as the route passed under the village. The tunnel is 396m long and is wide enough for two narrow boats to pass, there is no towpath inside and takes 15 minutes to go through.
There are actually two tunnels, the towpath splits off and rises on a ramp and then enters the road.
It is also home to bats.
