Flight to Beijing & Beijing to Paris
Being a cripple had one small advantage, and that was being able to board the plane before everyone else, missing the hustle and bustle.
That was about it, I had to let the flight attendant know when I needed to go to the toilet so they could bring me my crutches and they'd watch me hobble down a very, very small isle way.
Nathan & I started the flight by doing a typical, cute, newly wed couple thing and perfectly syncing out aeroplane tv's so we were watching the same movie at exactly the same time. It was like being at the movies, in a teeny tiny cinema with no popcorn and the screen constantly moved with the chair in front.
There were some good movies on the flight, which kept us well entertained.
However, the food was awful! I enjoy the bread roll from the first meal, and the small fruit salad from the second, which consisted of 6 pieces of fruit - woohoo.
If I had a dollar for every position that I moved into on that flight to try to get comfortable i'd be rich. Being 5'11 was not a good time.
We got of the aeroplane last, which was slightly annoying, but we were greeted by a lovely chinese lady at the exit of the aeroplane, I ditched the crutches for a wheel chair again, but this time she pushed me around the airport whilst Nathan struggled behind with all our carry on luggage.
She was a woman on a mission, dodging in and out of the crowds, she did get me to the front of the customs line which was great, but her english was so bad we had no idea where she was taking us after that.
We told her we had been given a free lounge pass for our stop over, which we were incredibly excited about, so she escorted us there.
She took us to this dingy look place, took the wheel chair off me and demanded a tip.
We were gobsmacked. The voucher said we'd be offered a bed, shower, food, drinks and our own room. We were welcomed by rude staff, no bedroom, no shower, filthy toilets, broken coffee machine, small packets of asian food, a large tv with no channels, dirty sofas, wifi and password but not allowed to access Facebook, but there was a fridge full of as much coke you could drink! Lucky we didn't pay for this.
We ended up having a super quick, towel-less, shower in one of the airport bathrooms, nathan called it a bird bath shower, it was a mission on crutches. Didn't help that someone banged on my door whilst I was getting changed, causing me to twist my hip and land on it the wrong way. (Leaving me in tears hating Beijing - although it was technically not Beijing's fault…)
Our second flight wasn't so bad, although I was in-between Nathan and an older asian lady, with breath that spelt like a dead mouse had crawled between her teeth, whilst a young fancy looking spanish man sprawled out across three seats in front of us.
We were glad to be out of Beijing, we found everyone to be quite rude and only one person helped me out.
42 euros later we arrive at our hotel room in France, Mama Shelter! The taxi driver, although didn't speak much English, was incredibly nice! Nathan and I were having mini panic attacks during the drive, not only were we on the wrong opposite side of the road, but we saw a crash within the first 5 minutes of being here and there's no lines on the road! All I can say is the French are CRAZY drivers & i'm glad we didn't hire a car!
The hotel is super quirky, the room has a Scooby Doo light and an apple Mac on the wall with all the information we need, oh and chalk board walls!
There's a lovely looking restaurant and pizzeria downstairs too. Best part of the holiday so far!
Oh, and the best bit! I can charge all my technology and be anti-social for a while whilst checking social networks, hehe.
Au Revoir!
