Old Man River....
....Old Man River
He don't say nothin', he must know somthin'
Old Man River, he just keeps rollin' along.
I'm on vacation for a week, so Tom & I left about 7:45 this morning to drive up to spend time with his family. We decided though to drive straight across the middle of the state to the far western border & then head North along the Mississippi River. We've been that way a couple of times before, as it's a beautiful drive, but the last time was before Jennie was born, so had to be in the late 1980's. It took us 8 hours instead of 4, but the time just flew by! We stopped at Wyalusing State Park where we spent some time just watching the hummingbirds outside of the Ranger station--I've never seen so many hummingbirds all at once in my whole life--must have been at least a dozen. Then we hiked to the Lookout--it overlooks the area where the Wisconsin River meets the Mississippi, & while the view was gorgeous--could see for miles & miles, as it was so high up--the day was so hazy that the pictures I took just didn't do it justice. At that spot in 1693 the explorers Marquette & Joliet stood & looked at the same view! I took this shot of the Mississippi from the overlook in Onalaska, which is about an hour's drive from the state park...this overlook was right next to the huge sculpture of a panfish that must have been 15 feet high by 10 feet wide! Only in Wisconsin! Ha! On Monday we leave for my sister's cottage on a lake in Northern Wisconsin, so I apologize in advance for lack of comments this week, as she has no internet access.
