A lovely memory ruined.
Now. Just so's you all know.
There is an old law which has still not been repealed in England which states that if you are found to be drunk in charge of a pushbike, you can be deported to New Zealand.
So if I don't come home again you will know it's either because I've had a good time and didn't want to.
Or because I have been caught and have asked for justice to be seen to be done.
And with reference to the memories. We called in at a canal-side hostelry today - The Anchor Inn, in Gargrave - with memories of an Olde Worlde place, quietly sitting beside the canal and roadside, with comfortable armchairs and settees placed around a huge fireplace, only to find it has been destroyed!
It is now one of the huge chains of 'Family' pubs full of kids, music, noise and a playground and to make things even worse there is a huge Premier Inn next door. Is nothing sacred anymore.
To be fair, our memories are of when our firstborn was only six months old but even so it was disappointing.
The only saving grace was that the toilets were clean and the prices were still from the 70's.
A pint of Black Sheep, half of Strongbow and a large bag of crisps for only £2.63. And the lad who served me cannot even have been born in the 70's so full marks for the staff training.
