The forgotten gate
Around sixteen years ago the elderly lady who lived in the cottage next door suggested to her gardener that he cut a hole in the hedge and instate a little gate so that our two little boys could retrieve their football safely without the need to walk along the road.
Years passed, the lady died, the cottage was demolished and a house built in its place. A new family moved in, people we knew from the village, their children grew up, our children grew up and the hedge grew.
After ten years the family moved on and rented the house. Now my parents are about to move in (the biggest granny annexe ever !) and it has been agreed that the gate should be reinstated for ease of access for my parents and us ! So Mr H set to with the secateurs, saw and big gloves and eventually through the huge brambles appeared the gate.
Personally I wouldn't have been surprised to find the Sleeping Beauty but that's another story.
