Bird Food of the Future........
.........is this lovely Sunflower seen in a village garden today. When it goes to seed later on it will provide many seeds to tempt the birds as the days grow cooler.
Helianthus annuus, the common sunflower, is an annual species of sunflower grown as a crop for its edible oil and edible fruits. Sunflower is also used as livestock forage and in some industrial applications.
So BOUI today have to be:-
1) . The sunflower is native to the Americas, where the Incas worshipped its image as a symbol of the sun god.
2) At the beginning of the 16th century when Francisco Pizarro was first rummaging around in Mexico, Europeans discovered many gold figures of sunflowers, including in temples in the Andes, and American Indians placed bowls of seeds on the graves of the dead.
3) Seeing this giant, oil-producing crop as the sun's representative on Earth isn't entirely loopy. Most flowers exhibit "heliotropism" – a propensity to turn towards or follow the sun. At sunrise their faces turn towards the east and over the course of the day they follow it westward. Some Europeans have incorporated this into their common name for the flower – in Italian it is girasole, in Spanish girasol and in French, tournesol, all of which mean "turn [to the] sun" (maybe the English name should be "sun-follower" instead of "sun-flower!)
Anni came over this morning for her usual haircut - ( had mine trimmed too) - we had lunch together - seems ages since she last came though it isn't that long.
I was NOT at my best!! - I stuck my first "pain" patch on yesterday - I don't know how long they take to kick in but all that has happened so far is that I feel very dopey and tired! - and the pain is no less! Will give it a few days and see if things improve!!!
Quite a pleasant day - sun and cloud - rather windy and distinctly cooler than of late at 62 Deg.F.
Hope you have a lovely weekend.
