Honey Dew

deep in the flower of a pumpkin. You can see it on its 'behind'...The bees were diving head first into the 3 cm long flowers , wrapped themselves around the stamen in the middle and stayed there upside down for a long time. Only on the screen I could see that all the little threads, that line the inside of each flower have a drop of honey at the outer end. I suppose that many drops fall into the tubelike flower and build up at the bottom so that the bees just have to slurp all the good stuff up. I wonder whether they do anything with the honey on their backs. Look in large if you like.

I have planted 20 different pumpkin plants and was dreaming of a rich harvest in fall. It turns out, that all the flowers are "male" flowers, so will not produce a pumpkin and I am quite disappointed about that. The growing season will be over soon, even if it is still about 90 degrees F hot.

At least the bees are feasting.
