Carline thistle
I was checking plants on one of our other chalk grassland nature reserves in the Chilterns this afternoon. There were a few species that don't occur at Dancersend Reserve, one of which - Carline Thistle - is a real favourite of mine. It is not a true thistle, but a closely-related prickly member of the daisy family with straw-coloured 'everlasting' flower heads. I wanted to get a photograph of one of the striking flowers and was thrilled to capture a lovely beetle of the genus Oedemera (I think) as well.
