Family

I've a pretty dis-jointed family history - effectively my Nan is the end of my paternal line - the last connection I have to that side of my family, to that part of my past.
Sadly my Nan is a six hour drive away - so visits aren't as frequent as I'd like - especially now that she's entering the last stages of her life - at 90 each illness or accident is a major event - a real cause for concern. She has very few visitors - her daughter is a five hour drive in the other direction, most of her friends have now passed away. On her own on the farm she's been a real tough little survivor - but I fear those days may be coming to a gradual end.
She recently fell and broke her hip - despite a somewhat remarkable recovery - she can get up and about with the aid of a frame, she struggles to do the day to day stuff- but she is resolute in her desire to stay and finish her days in what is really the only home she has ever lived in - the house she built with my Grandfather nearly seventy years ago.
Today I've driven the length of the country to swap over with my Aunt (again we passed like ships in the night) - and to make sure that the new care plan thats been put in place for Nan begins to operate smoothly - no-one is quite sure how Nan will react to having strangers in her home twice a day - but its the only forward we can see.
Asleep in her chair today I so wanted to take a picture for todays Blip - but looking at it tonight it seemed somehow disrespectful - so you've got a close up of those frail little hands that used to hold me close.
