Why are the Bees Doing This?

We are so intrigued by this behaviour! They took over wherever we may put the Pigeon Feed. They are going crazy in there, ‘drilling’ their heads into the feeder, much or this mixture consist of crushed maize and at the bottom is always a layer of ‘powdered maize’, it seems to me they are actually feeding on that? Our poor sweetie pigeon is too scared to eat there, we started putting her seeds on the lawn, where she can eat peacefully.
