Harbinger of Autumn
Here he is: Anenome robustissima just beginning with his first flower out of the clump allowing the morning sun to peek through thick, pink petals. There was still mist rising when I spied this autumn flower opening.
I stopped just now this a.m. at the post office. The postmistress also remarked about our cool weather and the feeling of fall in the air.
For a couple of weeks I have noticed the angle of the sun breaking through at a lower and sharper angle. Autumn...2014.
The good thing about this unexpectedly early change this year is that our August is unseasonably chilly. Hurray!! The tomatoes may not ripen before frost. Poor winter squash crop for those attempting them... I did not.
Sleeping with the bedroom windows closed for the first summer time since I have lived here. But, a glorious 72º F every day so far.
Could this bode unwell for an early and cold snowy winter? Ugh!
