The White Dove of Peace

As part of our commemoration of the beginning of the First World War, we were each given a white feather to write two peace messages on; later, these were arranged, as you see in the photo, to create an enormous white dove of Peace,
(Quakers have always been active in promoting peace, which means that often in time of war they will be conscientious objectors. During both World Wars, there were many Quaker COs - but there were also many who felt it was their duty to oppose evil tyranny even if it meant taking up arms. In WWI, becoming a soldier often resulted in the young man being "disowned" by Quakers, or resigning; in WWII this attitude had changed. I could write much more, but it's not appropriate here!)
