Along the Shropshire Union Canal

Thursday
After breakfast, we left my sister Janet's and drove north to the town of Much Wenlock, where we were meeting up with Roger's family for coffee and then lunch, (Janet and John and his parents coming down from near Warrington and Pam and Mike coming up from Malmesbury area). It would have been quite a scenic drive, unfortunately the weather wasn't so good, with low cloud and rain at times. While we having lunch, the weather deteriorated, and by the time we wanted to leave, it was raining quite heavily. After lunch, Pam and Mike returned home, while we continued north with Janet and John and Roger's parents. We had been hoping to stop somewhere for a little walk and some fresh air, but at the point of leaving the restaurant it wasn't looking very likely. However, as we drove the rain did eventually stop, and by the time we reached Ellesmere on the Shropshire Union canal, the sun was even breaking through, and we enjoyed an hour or so of sunshine. We had a short walk along the canal, and then drove over to the Mere and had another walk there. Roger's parents had lived in nearby Wem for a number of years, and we would often walk there in those days, when the children were much younger!
