Garreg Ddu
This is one of the six Elan Valley dams but it's unusual in that it is completely submerged.
Built 100 years ago to supply clean water to the city of Birmingham, the 6 dams were a major engineering feat and many lives were lost during the process. Valleys were purposely flooded and villages and the landscape were lost to the rising water levels. During periods of severe drought, the remains of the houses can be seen.
It's a magnificent area to visit and although it rained none stop until 1pm, it didn't spoil our day.
We made big mugs of hot chocolate when we got back to the lodge and sat drinking them in the hot tub.
