Causey Arch.
We had another outing with our grandson this morning. This time we went on the Tanfield Railway.
This railway was originally built to transport coal from the collieries of Co Durham, to the staithes on the River Tyne in 1647. It closed in 1964.It now operates a passenger service all year round, but only travels 3 miles. It stops at the Causey Arch, where two railway tracks crossed. One to take coal to the river, and one for returning empty wagons. It is now a popular walking area and in the quarry nearby an attraction for rock climbers.
We had a lovely morning, and just got home before the rain started.
