The French Poodle

Outside the National Bank in Montreal are two statues called "The English Pug" and "The French Poodle". The statues are apparently meant to represent the two halves of the provinces culture. The dogs are trying to get to each other, whereas the people are looking away from each other.

The thing is that in English a "Bull Dog Spirit" is something one celebrates, and a pug is apparently related to a bull dog. However, being a poodle is something one usually tries to avoid. So I find it a bit strange that in a predominantly french speaking province they put up statues which essentially say that the English are like pug/bull dogs and the French are like poodles.
