Let The River Run
We planned to meet our friends G and P at Castle Drogo today. We had to drive along the A382 the only A road we've ever seen with single track stretches and passing places.
We were shocked to see a hideous monstrosity of a building on a high cliff which looked like an old factory. 'How on earth did they get planning permission for that?' we shouted as we grumpy old people tend to do.
Then we realised it was the Castle we were heading for.
Yes Castle Drogo have got the builders and decorators in trying to restore this beautiful old but leaky Lutyens pile to its former glory. It's covered in scaffolding and plastic sheeting. It's going to take four years. Even longer than LooseCanon and I take to paint the bathroom.
We met our friends and enquired about walks, as the longest in their brochure was only three and a half miles. The lady on the desk was a bit shocked that anyone would want to walk further than this.
They did mention in hushed tones a seven miler which was very steep and was referred to locally as Cardiac hill due to its challenging steepness.
Well we survived to tell the story and this picture is of the river Teign.
We are now in Plymouth for the Fireworks competition. Expect, err, fireworks.
