Carnivorous!
Our of fieldwork I cam across some round-leaved sundews. These plants are really interesting as they are one of the few carnivorous plants in the UK!
They live wet habitats where the acidic conditions limit the amount of nutrients they can extract from the soil. These plants therefore supplement their diet by catching and digesting insects. On end of each spike is a nectar like substance which is irresistible to insects and is what lures them on to the plant. The substance is sticky and one the insect has landed it can't move, the plant is then able to slowly digest the insect. Very clever and beautiful little plants, I'm always so pleased when I see them.
