Cliffs at Howan Lickan
I spent all day on the cliffs around Deerness. The sea didn't look very wild but when it hit the cliffs, the effect was impressive. This must be the aftershock of Hurricane Bertha. I walked along the cliffs right from near the Covenanters Memorial, along Mull Head, Howan Lickan and the Brough of Birsay to Skail and a mile beyond. Plenty of birds around including great and arctic skuas and arctic terns, all of will be leaving soon. I didn't see any autumn migrants, but there are a few around. More here.
