Koffie en Appeltaart

Today we packed rather slowly, made our way to Centraal Station and paused for a koffie en appeltaart with this lovely view. The train journey to Schipol (built in 1916 - who knew?) was speedily efficient. The plane journey was turbulent but we arrived on time and safely.

We were greeted with rain and a friend wished us luck swimming home.

A brief word about air travel. I took my first plane ride in 1975. It was a Boeing 747 with an upstairs lounge and our roast beef was served on Royal Dalton china - in standard class, no less. It felt glamorous, adventurous and wildly exotic. Nowadays...well, I don't have anything kind to say. In future trips to the Continent, I shall endeavour to do it by train - far more civilised.
