Moon Rising Over the Pond

Dear Diary,

I didn't think I would be able to see the super moon last night. Late in the day there were rumbles of thunder and the sky clouded over but it cleared around 7 pm. It was an amazing sight. There was only a small window when it was in the right place to illuminate the pond lilies and still be under the over hanging tree branches.

Just being there, sitting on a rock by the edge of the pond was the important thing...witnessing it first hand. Many will look at the pictures on the internet today but, for me, seeing it with my own eyes is what mattered. I thought of a quotation by Thoreau that seems appropriate...

I did not wish to take a cabin passage, but rather to go before the mast and on the deck of the world, for there I could best see the moonlight amid the mountains. I do not wish to go below now.
