Newcastle life

St Nicholas' Cathedral

Busy weekend at work but still managed a drive into town to find something to blip. It's a grey and rainy day so thought I'd try out monochrome with a new function on my camera which highlights particular colours- tried this out on the red church clock.

This is St Nicholas' Cathedral one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in Newcastle. Built in the 14th century with an unusual lantern spire, known as a "Scottish crown" as it is very unusual for churches in England. It gives me find memories of my local church in Aberdeen from my student days!
The spire was used for many years for navigation by sailors up the river Tyne. I love to catch a glimpse of its silhouette on the skyline if I am driving home late across the Tyne bridge.

I look forward to climbing the Cathedral tower during the next Heritage weekend in September.
